Getting things done in 2021

Well…yeah. I won’t offer an explanation of what happened to me and this blog in 2020, mostly because I don’t have one. I know it was a crazy year for everyone, and I suppose that could be enough info to appease, but to be honest having a year of insanity isn’t the real reason I didn’t write. If enough of you want to know, I guess I could sum up 2020 in a later entry, but I’m just gonna, you know, look forward for now…

Baby Steps…

At the moment 2021 is going to be an interesting year. I didn’t really choose any resolutions, more of a cornerstone word for the months ahead. And that word is discipline.

As Merriam-Webster defines it, discipline is:

2020 was not a good year for discipline. I let a lot of things slip. This year I hope to get back the mental, spiritual, and physical abilities I had before. Of course, I have to be practical about it. It isn’t smart to rush into change, juggling too many things at once, crash and burn, and fall right back to the beginning. I’ve done that before, and it wasn’t fun. The plan is to take small, simple steps and aim for better, not perfect.

And, well, as I’m sure many of you know, throwing a baby into that mix makes things a little more complex…

…In Preparation for Baby!

Surprise! Although most of you have probably seen my family’s posts on Facebook by now, I’ll mention it hear just in case some of y’all are social media introverts like myself: Pete and I are expecting our first little one in May. ^-^

We’re pretty excited. Both Pete and I have always wanted to have kids, so the baba is a welcome, if not necessarily planned for, marvel. We don’t know the gender yet, although hopefully we’ll have that appointment soon. I personally think it’s a boy, but we shall see. Regardless, this development has added some extra spice to 2021. Pete and I are looking into getting our first home among other things. I mean, I guess we could squeeze a crib and other essentials into our apartment, but three people in 650 sq. ft. is a little too cozy for my taste.

How was your 2020? Comment below with your best and worst moments of last year. I’d love to catch up!

  1. Best moment(s): 50th wedding, 50th year as a nurse, birth of our first great grandchild
Worst: son wandered away, never to be seen? Breaks this mom’s heart…

  2. Great to see you taking a step into 2021. yeah, that baby will certainly throw a few wobblies into your discipline plan methinks, but that’s life for you! Maybe just write a short post once a week or month until you and baby get settled into a routine.

Have to say that I lost the will to write last year after my Strelitzia entry bombed. However, I spoke to my 95yr old Muv at Christmas and when I told her that after she enquired how my writing was going, she said, in no uncertain terms, ‘Well, you had best get going again, chop chop!’ So, I suggested a small writers circle to Dawn – virtually via Zoom, and Dawn, Anna, Janice and self have our first Zoom meet tomorrow morning. I want it for long term project kick up the butt stuff. Arachiba, in 3 books, needs to much work and will probably end up as 1 or 2 books, and the Strelitzia book – well, I was busy changing the story when I lost interest in writing about mid last year. Hopefully the small group will help get me going again.

  3. Hearty congrats Megz & Pete! All the very best with the remaining months of pregnancy and planning the arrival of baby Mitchell…

Wishing you a most prosperous and healthy 2021….

  4. Oh wow congratulations to the two of you. Mega exciting 😀. I know this little one will have fabulous parents xxx
